SUNDAY 8th OCTOBER will be the thirty eigth anniversary of the first conker competition at The Spotted Cow, Angmering. The first event was a singles competition won by Mr Fred Gray.

In 1981 the team competition was introduced to encourage more participants. The competition is held on the same weekend as the World Championships, which is a singles tournament. S.C.O.T.C.H. has adopted the rules of that competition.

The first team competition was won by Muddy Wellies. The following year the competition was featured on TVS (Now Meridian TV). To date, thee teams have won the competition twice (Polka Dot Pussies, Woodpeckers and Grooldridge.

This year,as the previous thirteen years, S.C.O.T.C.H. will be raising funds for The Chestnut Tree House Appeal. Proceeds from previous years have been donated to charities including Guide Dogs For The Blind, Chanctonbury Playscheme, Highdown School and Ferring Country Centre. Between 1985 and 1993 the event was organised by Littlehampton Round Table, returning to The Spotted Cow in 1994.

The 2016 competition was won by GROOLDRIDGE (Lauren Wooldridge, John Griffiths and Scot Wooldridge ) who beat DADANDCO (Roger Anscombe, Charles Anscombe and Duncan Brindley).


The organisers are appealing to all previous contestants and new aspirants to attend and try their luck. The competition starts promptly at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday 8th October. Registration will be from 1.00pm. Entries will only be accepted on the day of the event. The competition is open to all ages. The entry fee will be 10.00 per team. The competition will be on a knockout basis, for teams of three players, with those teams knocked out in the first round playing a plate competition. There will be a barbecue and raffle with all proceeds going to Chestnut Tree House.There will be live music, Liquid Logic, from 4.30pm.
